About Me

On March 10, 1983, my world shattered.

At seventeen, I returned home to find my mother brutally attacked. Despite frantic attempts to save her, she died from her injuries. In an instant, my life became unrecognizable.

Instead of searching for the truth, the Los Angeles Police targeted me. They ignored crucial evidence and built a false narrative that branded me guilty. Wrongfully convicted of murder, I was sentenced to life in prison.

I spent the next 26 years behind bars for a crime I did not commit. Though confined by steel bars and high walls, my spirit refused to yield. Inside those walls, imagination became my lifeline. I pictured the world I’d lost—the majestic redwoods, glittering cityscapes, ocean sunsets both remembered and imagined. I studied the interplay of light and shadow in my mind, creating mental images I vowed to capture one day.

That act of envisioning a life beyond confinement was my quiet rebellion and survival strategy. I promised myself freedom—not just physical, but creative freedom as well.

That act of imagining became an act of survival, and a quiet rebellion. A promised myself that one day I would return — not just to freedom, but to meaning, to art, to expression.

In August 2009, after 9,653 days, I walked out of prison, finally exonerated and free. Since reclaiming my life years ago, photography has become my voice, a way to turn survival into art, longing into expression, and trauma into purpose.

Yet, my journey isn’t only about loss—it's about reclaiming meaning and building a life dedicated to justice, creativity, and compassion. It's about helping others rewrite their own narratives of brokenness into stories of resilience and hope.

Thank you for joining me, for seeing beyond the surface, and for daring to look deeper.

"Through Innocent Eyes" - An Artist's Statement:

At seventeen, my world narrowed dramatically. Wrongfully convicted of my mother’s murder, I endured 26 years in prison before justice finally prevailed. Those years—filled with loss and deprivation—fundamentally transformed how I perceive everything around me.

"Through Innocent Eyes" is the visual embodiment of that transformation. My incarceration taught me to see beauty in limitation, significance in stillness, and hope in the darkest corners. Within prison walls, I learned to look beyond the obvious: the subtle shadows dancing on concrete, the delicate shift of light through a barred window, the silent expressions of resilience etched onto the faces of those around me.

My photography is more than what meets the eye—it’s how the eye meets the world. It captures overlooked strength, the tension between restriction and freedom, and the enduring resilience of the human spirit. These images are reflections of lost time sharpened by an unwavering will to find meaning and beauty wherever possible.

"Through Innocent Eyes" invites you to share this perspective—to recognize the fragility and preciousness in every fleeting moment, and to understand the world through eyes shaped by loss but brightened by gratitude and possibility.
